Gillian Castka BEng MSc CEng MICE MHKIE

Gillian has more than thirty-five years experience in the construction industry, twenty five of which have been spent on major infrastructure projects in Hong Kong. Gillian is an ICE-registered mentor.

More recently Gillian brought her holistic and in-depth knowledge and understanding of the construction industry, combined with excellent communication skills to the role of ICE Membership Development Officer, a role that enabled her to proactively support and engage members and potential ICE members at all levels. Gillian has a unique capacity to engage and motivate engineers from diverse backgrounds to achieve excellence in their professional goals.

She is equally passionate in engaging those outside the profession in promoting the positive impact that engineering has on society. Her ability to focus on output performance standards and to motivate others stems from her personal belief in “the pusuit of excellence”, something that has been admirably demonstrated by her long and distinguished career as an international athlete.

Notable highlights include: Personal best marathon time of 2:32:53, which stood as an Italian All-comers record from 1984- 1999; World Marathon Championships (Team GB); Only British woman to have won the Kosice Marathon (second oldest marathon in the world, after Boston); Runner-up at Paris International and Berlin International Marathons
